Welcome! This is the first of forming new productive habits! I am going to attempt to post about my creative life at the end each week. This is my effort to better communicate with myself and…. you! This first edition will contain work from last week as well. With the holidays and everything that comes with them this entire month feels like one long week anyway. So, Let’s get started.
The Fall Of 420
As soon as I heard they were going to implode the building I knew I would be there to capture it. I spent the week before scouting locations to find a good ground level spot to best tell a visually compelling story. I also spent a great deal of time on Google maps to see if I missed a great spot I wouldn’t otherwise see in a car. I came up with several options, but ultimately decided that 5th and Bob Jones Way was the best spot. The other spots I considered, almost at all of them someone captured the moment. Except one. I thought the intersection of Main and 2nd with the Downtown arch in the foreground would have been very interesting. Too bad there is only one of me.
I knew there would be plenty of photographs finding somewhere high or finding ways to shoot with no obstructions between the camera and 420. I wanted to be sure to capture the moment from a perspective that seemed more in the moment. A capture the would tell an eye level story. Honestly, I did not expect that many spectators to show up or that they would agree that my scouted location would be the best vantage point. I could have negotiated through to the front of the crowd, but instead I decided to make the spectators part of the story. I arrived at 6:20 AM, and yes people were already there. Another reason I picked this location is because I knew the sun would be rising to my right lighting up the building beautifully…. but it was cloudy and raining of course. I stood in the rain holding my camera under my shirt awaiting the collapse. I am very pleased with the results. I shot with a Nikon D810 with 28-70mm lens @ 160 – 5.6 – 2000 iso.
Here is a fun way to commiserate the demise of 420. These shirts are awesome. Great Active wear and super comfortable. Printed in the US This Cut & Sew T-shirt is 95% Premium Polyester/ 5% Spandex. THE MATRIX
The Matrix franchise is being rebooted. I am actually really excited about this. I loved the first three movies and the techniques used in those films changed cinematography forever. I hope to see more revolutionary creativity and technology from this go-around. The branding campaign for this film is on point starting with the teaser trailers that use the current time in the trailer. Giving the viewer a sense of personal involvement with the story. I looked up how the code was created to achieve that and it is not as complicated as one might think. Look it up! The new posters come out and I was excited to see techniques used that I had just taught to my class at Ivy Tech being used. So I decided to make one too. enjoy!
Abstract and Galaxy Art in Photoshop
I have mostly used Photoshop for editing photos and when is comes to creating digital art I live in Adobe Illustrator. I recently taught a class how to create abstract art in Photoshop and I got carried away. I kind of love it now and fully expect to make this type of art part of my repertoire. I hope you enjoy!
Unfortunately Loaves of Love is already over. So, you missed the opportunity to get you some. Maybe next time! Most know I serve as the Vice Chair on the board of Urban Seeds. I also do most of the branding and graphics, It is a labor of love for a cause that is very important to me. I created the Loaves of Love logo to convey something loose and fun.. happy… fulfilling.
